#IWSG – WRITING AND STUFF

Hello, all! It’s the first Wednesday of the month and we know what that means:

It’s time for another meeting of the Insecure Writers Support Group – #IWSG.

My hero, the amazing Ninja Captain Alex J. Cavanaugh founded this group and it has become a safe haven if you are an insecure writer.

Click the image if you would like to be a part of the #IWSG family. You won’t regret it.

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak.

Our awesome co-hosts today are C. Lee McKenzie, Rachel Pattison, Elizabeth Seckman, Stephanie Faris, Lori L MacLaughlin, and Elsie Amata!

Please take a moment to thank them for their hard work.

September’s question of the month – How do you find the time to write in your busy day?

My days are ‘busier’ in the sense that I’m far slower in doing tasks than I was before 2011. I do find time in my routine to write. I recently discovered an app for my iPhone called Werdsmith, and I love it. I use it to jot ideas, notes, and sometimes even paragraphs when I’m in a car, or in bed and too lazy to power up the computer (or pull out a pen and paper).

I still manage to write (type) before bed, even if it’s for twenty minutes/half-hour.

I also opened a free account with CELTX, a scriptwriting program that I’m trying to familiarize myself with. It looks straightforward. There’s an app for that, too – and it can also be upgraded to a paid account. The free is good for beginners like me.

I’d do well with Scrivener if I could ever get through the tutorial without becoming completely flustered. (It’s the brain). *Sigh* I’ve had it since I won NaNo in 2013 and still haven’t been able to enjoy it.

Have you wanted to learn something so badly, but seemed to get stuck at every turn? How did you conquer said obstacle?

  1. When I’m learning something new, I have to start from the beginning and I do better with a manual with pictures. Then I go step by step in increments, not moving on until I’ve got it down. I haven’t tried Scrivener. I’m happy with Word. The script app sounds interesting. I’ll have to check it out.

  2. Scrivener is a long-term learning process. I know, because I am still learning. But it is an outstanding tool writing tool for writers so I’ll stick with it.
    Wishing you all the best.

  3. I tried Scrivener because so many people raved about it. Even took a workshop on how to use it. I found the learning curve too much to switch from Word where I’m so comfortable. To each his own, I guess.

    • I’m used to Word myself, but I’m like a dog on a bone. I need to learn how to use it, just because! 🙂

Someone told me to try little bits at a time so I don’t overwhelm myself. It’s a start. Thanks so much for the visit and comment. Hugs.

  4. Your apps sound very impressive. Heck, I don’t even own a cell phone, (and don’t want one!) so all my writing depends on is me having a notebook and pen. And having some active thoughts buzzing in my brain.

    • I’m going to have to try that. The Scrivener is on my old laptop, but a friend is going to replace the fan, and I’m going to backup the hard drive and replace that too. That baby fell apart on me.

I’ll definitely use that advice. Love you! Hugs.

    • Werdsmith is an easy, no frills kind of app. There might be upgrades; I’m not sure. I also like that I can set it to notify me when I need to write.

Thanks for the visit and comment. Have a great day. Eva

    • Kewl. 🙂 I downloaded the CELTX app but haven’t used it yet. I use the laptop to do CELTX related work. I use the Werdsmith app since it’s simple and easy to use. It also gives me notifications for when it’s time to write. 🙂
