A-Z Challenge – WHAT A RIDE and WRiTE CLUB

It’s the final few days of the A-Z Challenge and I made it to W!   Woot, Woot!! What a ride it’s been! When I say ride, I mean a rollercoaster, for sure.

Several times during this challenge I’ve contemplated giving it up for one reason or another; some of them legitimate.  Then I thought to myself, I won’t do that, especially since I made a promise to Tina Downey that I would do this no matter what.

I rearranged some things; it had to be done. Some people might not like the order in which I changed these things, but it’s only temporary. Promise. I may get a kick or two for it from my Fellowship. (Padding my sweats in preparation, just in case). < Sigh >

I also made a last-minute decision this month to throw my hat in for WRiTECLUB2015DFW  this years WRiTE CLUB, hosted by my distinguished fellow blogging buddy DL Hammons. So, yeah, I took on a lot this month. I’m not even going to include the everyday things that came out of left field, because that’ll just irk me and I’m in a pretty good mood right now. 🙂

In a few more days I’ll be able to look up to the heavens, blow some kisses and say, “I did it, Tina.”

That all being said, did you know that the following people were born in the Bronx?

  1. Washington, Kerry – Actress
  2. Whitfield, Charles Malik – Actor
  3. Walker, Jimmie – Actor, Comedian

How challenging was your April? Was there any special reason you decided to take part this year? Was there any point you were close to giving up?

A-Z Challenge – LIFE IS GOOD

Up to L now in the A-Z Challenge and I’m dedicating this post to Tina Downey, who this Challenge is for. She is the main reason I joined.

For Tina.

Jump around and make new friends!

If this post doesn’t make you fall in love with the person she was, I don’t know what will. I wish I had known her in life.

I first ‘met’ Tina when fellow blogger DL Hammons had me Blog Blitzed in September 2013. After that she became a major cheerleader in my corner, through good and bad. Every time I see a sunflower now I think of her.

For you, Tina.

For you, Tina.

I’m posting some of her comments for you to read so you can gain a small sense of what a phenomenal person she was. By the time I finished reading them, I was bawling.

“Wow, I’m totally impressed with your tenacity and your willingness to share so openly about such a personal experience. I’m sorry for being late for the blitz – it was a crazy day yesterday. I can’t wait to read the other parts, when time permits. Very nice to meet you!”

“I’m so glad you’re writing more and putting it out there! Best of luck in the flash fiction contest!” Tina @

“You continue to amaze me! Great job on all those …T’s. You are a force to be dealt with, and I’ll take you on in Scrabble any day 🙂 “

“It sounds like you are (were, considering the dates you’re discussing) making great progress. I love the part about God still having plans for you. I’m a firm believer in that. I’m so looking forward to more of this story, and need to go back and read 1,2, and 3. (I met you at 4 😉 Thanks as always for sharing so honestly and openly.”
Tina @

“You’re doing an amazing job stepping out of your comfort zone. You also gave me an idea: I’m not thinking of taking a class this summer!
Keep up the hard work, girlfriend!”

These are just some of the comments she made on THIS blog. She made many more inspiring ones on my other one too. Occasionally I’ll leave a little message for her at a special place I belong. Click on her name at the beginning of this post or Life is Good, to look through her blog.

I miss you, Tina. Keep watching over us. Xoxoxo

A-Z Challenge 2015 – A is for AWAY WE GO!!

Hey all! This is my first venture into the A-Z Challenge, so you’ll have to forgive me as I stumble along this month. 🙂  Arlee Bird started this challenge at Tossing it Out, and it’s been around since about 2007.

I entered this challenge for one reason: Tina Downey. She was a dear blogger friend who we lost last August, far too young. She was great at lifting my spirits whenever I was having a rough time and I still miss her dearly. Her family has memorialized her blog, Life is Good and I visit it when I can.

I originally planned to do a theme on the history of the Bronx since that’s where I was raised, but life has its way of throwing curves. I’m keeping it theme-less for now, although I’ll throw in some tidbits about the Bronx since I’d already started doing research.

It’ll be the challenge, but if I can get through it unscathed, I will be one happy camper! 🙂

I’m one of Lisa’s Live Wires for new co-host Lisa Buie-Collard. You can also find her blog here. A-ZLisaLiveWiresI’m thrilled to be working with these amazing bloggers and writers as my Minion cohorts:

Rhonda Albom –   Bob R. Milne –   Tamera Narayan –   Doreen McGettigan –   Stephanie Faris –   Heather McCubbin –   Randi Lee

Oh, and A also stands for Arthur Avenue, which happens to be in Da Bronx, not far from where my BFF and Comadre, Julie used to live. It’s part of Bronx’s Little Italy.

That’s it for today! See you tomorrow!

Hello writers! It’s the first Wednesday of the month and we know what that means:

It’s time for another meeting of the Insecure Writers Support Group – #IWSG.

My hero, the amazing Ninja Captain Alex J. Cavanaugh founded this amazing group and it has become THE PLACE to go if you are an insecure writer.

Click the image if you would like to be a part of this phenomenal group. You won’t regret it.

‘Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak.’

The awesome co-hosts for the February 4 posting of the IWSG will be Gwen Gardner, Dolorah, Sarah Foster, and M. Pax!

Anniversary Badge

I can’t believe yesterday was my second blogiversary. It seems like yesterday I started my baby. I should have a little party with cake and balloons; unfortunately, I don’t have the time right now.  😦  Busy, busy.

I didn’t think I’d last this long. 😀

Adventures and Challenges. What can I say? I’m a glutton for punishment. I like adventure and I love a challenge; sometimes I make them, sometimes I don’t. At least I try. I’m signed up for the WordPress Blogging 101 course through my sister blog, My Miracle Life. (Goodness knows I need it. After two years I still get confuddled.)

And…I’d been debating joining the A-Z Challenge for over a year because I was always afraid of not being able to manage it. I’ve entered challenges in the past that I haven’t been able to complete. I’m not a fan of the disappointment that follows. Like I mentioned earlier, sometimes I make them, sometimes not. I know this one is tough.

I was on the fence about this year until I saw the BADGE-then plunged…

A2Z2015Here’s why. . .  I’m doing this in honor of Tina Downey, a blogger and friend we lost last August. I miss her so much and this is my little way of paying tribute to her. I hope I can do her proud and finish it. I want to at the very least give it my best shot.

Anyone else celebrating their blogiversaries with me? Are you joining the A-Z Challenge this year, too? If so, will it be your first or are you a veteran? Any advice on how not to go nuts during planning would be appreciated. Finally, what in the world are the Kar Grandes? 😀

Remembering a Great Friend – Sunflowers for Tina

I’m still at a loss after losing a great blogging friend, Tina Downey, a couple of weeks ago. Sunflowers for Tina 2She was one of the most positive people I’ve ever ‘met’ on the internet and always had something positive to say about everything. Her motto was #lifeisgood.

A group of her fellow bloggers and fans decided to use today, September 8, 2014 as a day to remember Tina and her loving and positive nature.

Today is:
