A-Z Challenge – YANKEE STADIUM

Official NY Yankees logo

Go Yankees!

Two letters left in the A-Z Challenge. I’m sure you figured out my Y would stand for Yankee Stadium by now. Right? I would hope so, considering I’m from the Bronx and  happen to be a New York Yankees fan! 🙂 I believe I’ve posted that before.

My dad used to take me to Yankee Stadium pretty often, not to see the Yankees though. He wasn’t a baseball fan. Papi was a European football fan, or soccer, as we call it here in the states.

Back in the day when we were still living on Jerome Avenue, he’d take me to see the New York Cosmos, who played out of Yankee Stadium  during their 1976 season. PelĂ© was their star player and me and Papi were huge fans.

We used to go to the park across the street and practice our soccer moves while Mami used to sit on a blanket under a tree and watch. Not many of my friends were into soccer much, so it was only me and Papi for a while until we made some new friends at that very same park. That’s a story for another day.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I didn’t see my Yanks, I did… Just not with Papi. Every so often during baseball season, I’d be offered an extra ticket in the bleachers if Mami gave the okay. It was pretty sweet living walking distance to the stadium.

Did you know that the following people were born in the Bronx?

  1. Yannetti, Robert – Actor, Assistant Director, Director (1953-2011)
  2. Yellen, Sherman – Playwriter, Screenwriter

Are you a fan of baseball or soccer? Who’s your team? Do you, or did you ever play at all?
