It’s time for another meeting of the Insecure Writers Support Group – Twitter Hashtag: #IWSG.

My hero, mentor, and adopted virtual brother, the amazing Ninja Captain Alex J. Cavanaugh founded this amazing group and it has become a safe haven for any insecure writer, blogger, or artistically inclined creative.

Click the image if you would like to be a part of this phenomenal group. You won’t regret it.

Purpose:To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak.

I will be co-hosting the May 6 IWSG with the wonderful  Melanie Schulz, Lisa-Buie Collard, and Stephen Tremp!

April was one heck of a month for me. I participated and completed my first ever A-Z Challenge. Go me.

I entered this years WRiTE CLUB for the second year in a row. I didn’t make the cut last year; maybe I’ll get lucky this time around.

For the first time EVER, I let others online critique my work, and took it like a champ. ( Of course, while I was waiting for them to come in, I thought I was DYING inside!) Some were gentle; one, not so much. Don’t get me wrong, the critiques were constructive and fair, and the best part is that I learned from them. Most of the critiques came from published authors, no less.

The piece I was working on kept going, so I’m continuing to write it so I can see where it takes me.

Did you take part in any special event in April, like the A-Z or Camp NaNoWriMo? Did anyone else throw their anonymous hat in for the WRiTE CLUB this year?

It’s the final few days of the A-Z Challenge and I made it to W!   Woot, Woot!! What a ride it’s been! When I say ride, I mean a rollercoaster, for sure.

Several times during this challenge I’ve contemplated giving it up for one reason or another; some of them legitimate.  Then I thought to myself, I won’t do that, especially since I made a promise to Tina Downey that I would do this no matter what.

I rearranged some things; it had to be done. Some people might not like the order in which I changed these things, but it’s only temporary. Promise. I may get a kick or two for it from my Fellowship. (Padding my sweats in preparation, just in case). < Sigh >

I also made a last-minute decision this month to throw my hat in for WRiTECLUB2015DFW  this years WRiTE CLUB, hosted by my distinguished fellow blogging buddy DL Hammons. So, yeah, I took on a lot this month. I’m not even going to include the everyday things that came out of left field, because that’ll just irk me and I’m in a pretty good mood right now. 🙂

In a few more days I’ll be able to look up to the heavens, blow some kisses and say, “I did it, Tina.”

That all being said, did you know that the following people were born in the Bronx?

  1. Washington, Kerry – Actress
  2. Whitfield, Charles Malik – Actor
  3. Walker, Jimmie – Actor, Comedian

How challenging was your April? Was there any special reason you decided to take part this year? Was there any point you were close to giving up?

A-Z Challenge – LIFE IS GOOD

Up to L now in the A-Z Challenge and I’m dedicating this post to Tina Downey, who this Challenge is for. She is the main reason I joined.

For Tina.

Jump around and make new friends!

If this post doesn’t make you fall in love with the person she was, I don’t know what will. I wish I had known her in life.

I first ‘met’ Tina when fellow blogger DL Hammons had me Blog Blitzed in September 2013. After that she became a major cheerleader in my corner, through good and bad. Every time I see a sunflower now I think of her.

For you, Tina.

For you, Tina.

I’m posting some of her comments for you to read so you can gain a small sense of what a phenomenal person she was. By the time I finished reading them, I was bawling.

“Wow, I’m totally impressed with your tenacity and your willingness to share so openly about such a personal experience. I’m sorry for being late for the blitz – it was a crazy day yesterday. I can’t wait to read the other parts, when time permits. Very nice to meet you!”

“I’m so glad you’re writing more and putting it out there! Best of luck in the flash fiction contest!” Tina @

“You continue to amaze me! Great job on all those …T’s. You are a force to be dealt with, and I’ll take you on in Scrabble any day 🙂 “
Tina @

“It sounds like you are (were, considering the dates you’re discussing) making great progress. I love the part about God still having plans for you. I’m a firm believer in that. I’m so looking forward to more of this story, and need to go back and read 1,2, and 3. (I met you at 4 😉 Thanks as always for sharing so honestly and openly.”
Tina @

“You’re doing an amazing job stepping out of your comfort zone. You also gave me an idea: I’m not thinking of taking a class this summer!
Keep up the hard work, girlfriend!”
Tina @

These are just some of the comments she made on THIS blog. She made many more inspiring ones on my other one too. Occasionally I’ll leave a little message for her at a special place I belong. Click on her name at the beginning of this post or Life is Good, to look through her blog.

I miss you, Tina. Keep watching over us. Xoxoxo

Time for I in the A-Z Challenge today. I’ve been trying to tie in things on the Bronx in my posts – not so much today. I need to talk about an insecurity I have right now that’s festering because I’m trying to do so many things at once. Seriously. This is an emergency. For me anyway.

A to Z Challenge

Jump Around!

I’m sure some of you know that I’m been a faithful member of Ninja Captain Alex J. Cavanaugh’s     Insecure Writer’s Support Group since I first discovered it a few months after I started this blog.

It’s been an extraordinarily busy month for me. I’m having a lot of fun with this challenge and am learning a lot of new and exciting things, but it’s taking up a great deal of my time. I also have my recovery efforts to think about, appointments to keep and tests to take. Oh, and my Minion duties… 😀

Believe me when I say I’m not complaining about any of it. My problem, or shall I say, my insecurity is this:  Fellow blogger buddy DL Hammons is running his annual contest again, the WRiTE CLUB.

I tried for it last year and didn’t make the cut. It’s okay; I knew my entry kinda sucked, but at least I tried. Thing is, I want to try again this year but I don’t know if I’ll have the time with everything else going on. The deadline for the 500 word piece is April 30. See my dilemma? Even if I can squeak out a draft, I may not make deadline. You can check my other blog here for more of a history of my illness and disability.

Are any of my fellow A-Z’ers planning on competing in any writing competitions this month? How’s your week going so far?

I’ve Been BLITZED! And I Loved Every Minute!

The past few weeks have been extraordinarily busy for me. Between writing my post series about my stroke, some personal issues I’m dealing with on the home front, working on my novel, keeping up with my social media (or trying to, at least), I’ve been a chicken without a head. I had fallen behind in some things that I usually do religiously; like check my email.

I have followed DL Hammon’s BLOG BLITZ since I started my blog. Well, maybe two or three weeks after. . . Anyway, I’ve blitzed bloggers every time . I love it. I was beside myself when I checked my email recently only to find that I had missed a Blitz!

Willing to accept whatever punishment DL saw fit, I emailed him after I finally saw the Blitz email (five days later. Ayeee). I threw myself on the mercy of the Blitz King’s Court and briefly explained my circumstances. I was not, however, willing to accept being removed from the Blitz roster. . . (of course, I didn’t mention that to King, Master DL. I was too busy groveling explaining). I didn’t hear anything back from him. I thought to myself, that can’t be good.

The next thing I know, I go to my blog and I have a ton of comments waiting to be approved! I was ecstatic! The comments were amazing, inspiring and definitely lift me up spiritually. Thank you all!

And DL, if this is the kind of punishment you hand down to your subjects, give me more!! You are amazing!

On that note, I’m going to end this post with a huge smile on my face and hugs to all my blogger friends; old and new. Love you guys!
