IF I WERE A MOBSTER BLOGFEST

I’m stoked to be participating in the ‘If I were a Mobster Blogfest’, created by fellow blogger, and author¬†Chrys Fey. I had so much fun trying to build my ‘profile’. ūüôā

mobsterblogfest10-21

MY MOBSTER PROFILE:

Mobster Name: Notorious E.V.A., or Speedy to my closest associates and inner circle.

Rank: I’m the Boss. A stroke left me partly unable to work the streets that often, but I have a loyal second in command and lieutenants¬†that handle most of that for me.

Crime Zone: Upstate New York

My look: Simple. I wear mostly black, though I do have a strategically placed eyeliner beauty mark on my right cheek. Oh, and all day coverage blood-red lipstick. Have to have the lipstick.

Weapon of Choice: My diamond encrusted walking cane. I’ve downed more than one opponent by striking the back of their knees with this baby. I let my boys handle the rest.

Catchphrase: Handle it, boys.

Mobster Vehicle: Toyota Rav-4. Hey, I don’t like to stand out that much, ok?

How to get on my good side: Bring me scores of chocolates and cheeses and we’ll talk.

What I’m known for: Sending flowers to the hospital after having to teach someone a lesson.

BLURB:

Blake Herro is a cop in the Cleveland Police Force. Ever since he was a child he wanted to do right by the city he loved by cleaning up the streets and protecting its citizens. Red, a notorious mobster, has other plans.

On a bitter December night, ten police officers are drawn into a trap and killed by Red’s followers. Blake wants to bring down the Mob to avenge his fallen brothers and to prevent other cops from being murdered. Except the only way he can do that is by infiltrating the Mob.

Every minute he’s with these mobsters he’s in danger. Around every corner lies the threat of coming face to face with a gun. Will he make it out of the Mob alive or will he be their next victim?

Spooktoberfest 2015-LOST IN A NIGHTMARE

Hey all! This is my third year participating in Spooktoberfest, a flash fiction contest and blog-hop sponsored by two of my favoristest bloggers, Dani Bertrand and Jackie Felger and the blog they co-author together Cover Girls.  spooklist2015

They’re switching it up this year using Scattergories, so it’s far more challenging for me than previous years. ¬†Look what I’ve come up with.

These are my words in Scattergory order, and my piece is 397 words.

Hyena, pantsuit, Leticia, Spiced pumpkin latte, Welcome to my Nightmare, dog, pureed monkey placenta, motorcycle, pocket watch, sapphire, Red Hots and Reese’s Pieces, eel, Band-Aids and peroxide.

LOST IN A NIGHTMARE

Crap. I’m lost. Why can’t my motorcycle have GPS? I sip my spiced pumpkin latte as I ponder my next move. I pull my sapphire encrusted pocket watch from my pantsuit and glance at it. It’s almost midnight. My brother will kill me if I miss his Halloween party again.

I hop back on the bike and make a U-turn. As I approach the traffic light, I see shadows forming on the road. Reminds me of a scene from ‘Ghost’. Creepy. A chill goes up my spine, but I ignore it and focus on the light. Before I can utter a sound, I’m yanked off the bike and dragged down the street, pocket watch flying. I see nothing. I hear the cackling of what sounds like¬†hyenas¬†in the distance.

Then I’m dropping into water. The fall feels everlasting; it’s no more than a few feet. I panic. The water is inky black but there’s land ahead of me. I see a fire. My arms thrash in the water fighting an unknown predator. I pull out an¬†eel. I shriek and run towards shore. I make it, though¬†I have cuts on my feet.

A woman in a green cape approaches me and whispers, “You’re perfect. I have Band-Aids by the fire for your cuts. I‚Äôd hate to become infected during transit.‚ÄĚ

‚ÄúI don‚Äôt understand.‚ÄĚ

“My name is¬†Leticia. You are perfect for transporting me back to the upper realm. Eat this.” She holds out a bowl. “I made it myself. It’s pureed monkey placenta mixed with peroxide. It makes spirit transfer less painful.”

“No. Who are you?‚ÄĚ

“It isn’t a request.” She shoves me the bowl. ‚ÄúEat! I only have until midnight. You’ll know soon enough.‚ÄĚ

I try to swallow the lump in my throat; this can’t be it. I take the bowl with my right hand and punch her in the face with my left. She goes down, whatever or whoever she is.

The next thing I hear is Welcome to My Nightmare, and my brother Alex shaking my shoulders. “You had a nightmare, you’re drunk, and you just punched me in the face! Last time I invite you over for Halloween!

He snatches a box of Red Hots out of the candy bucket and storms out of the living room. I snuggle with my dog Sophie. At least he didn’t take the Reese’s Pieces.

Click Here To Find Out More!

Fast Five Friday is a weekly blog hop created by my blogger buddies Dani Bertrand and Jackie Felger. They co-host the blog Cover Girls together. Its purpose is to connect with writers, readers, viewers, and bloggers.

You may recognize the names, since I also occasionally participate in their Express Yourself blog hop.

They love lists, so they do a weekly blog hop where we list things. They provide the topics for each week, with five being the focus .

You’re not required to post every week, AND you can pick which topics you’d like to participate in.¬†Awesome, right? Yeah, I think so too.

Whatever topics you decide to do, please include the link to your Fast Five Friday post in the comments section of their Fast Five Friday post each week, so they can stop by and show their Fast Five Friday love to you!

This weeks list question is:

Aug. 28: 5 websites/blogs you visit the most

  1. Insecure Writers Support Group
  2. Pinterest
  3. Ninja Captain Alex J. Cavanaugh
  4. Facebook
  5. Chrys Fey

There are more that I’d like to name, but there’s only room for five. Thanks for tuning in today! I hope you all have a great weekend! Xoxoxo.

The list question for today, July 10, is:

What five autographs would you love to have? I’m¬†not really an autograph collecting type. Knowing me, I’d probably lose them, like I lost my pic with Barry Gibb. I also caught one of two guitar picks Meatloaf used, and then threw t the audience¬†at¬†the last concert I attended… It’s around here somewhere…

That being said, if I could get autographs and actually save them, I would want the following:

  1. Barack Obama – President, believer in civil and equal rights and NOT afraid to show it
  2. Juan Luis Guerra –¬†favorite Latin singer, Composer, Social Activist
  3. Elton John РSinger, Musician, Activist
  4. Eminem – Rapper, Lyrical Genius, Often Misunderstood
  5. Johnny Depp – Actor, Just because I could have it.¬† ūüôā

Whose autographs would you like to have? Let me know in the comments. Have a great weekend!

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES BLOGHOP

Hey all! I’m doing an Inspirational Quote Bloghop today like the one I recently did on my other blog – My Miracle Life. Only there it was The Three Quotes Challenge.

Thanks to fellow blogger and children’s¬†author,¬†Deanie Humphrys-Dunne¬†for tagging me for this blog post where we write about inspirational quotes.¬†¬†I adore Deanie because she’s been with me since I first started blogging¬†and I’m¬†proud to¬†call¬†her my¬†friend. If you haven’t visited her blog, you should! Click on her name above and check her out! Thanks for thinking of me, Deanie!!

Here are the rules:

1. Thank the person who tagged you.
2. List three quotes and inspire readers over three days or all at once.
3. Tag three or more people.
I’m doing all three¬†quotes at once, so here they are:
BQ-octaviaebutler646129I love this quote because it’s so true. Whether¬†my writing is¬†dramatic, funny, sordid, or sad, it takes seemingly senseless mush from deep within and creates something new, as if I found a piece of my personality I never knew existed.
I don’t know any other way to explain it¬†to have it make sense to anyone. It’s in my brain, but I can’t formulate the expression to make you get it. I’m sorry for that. Frustrating.
BQ-swamisivananda390760I included this quote not only for myself, but for my friends who have been down on themselves lately, questioning their talents and place in this world.
Heart, mind, and soul go into everything I do now. I don’t expect perfection anymore, only the best I can give. That’s why I take the time now to Celebrate the Small Things.
BQ-samuelbeckett121335
¬†This is an awesome quote. I don’t even know how many times I’ve tried and failed at things through life, especially over the past four and a half plus years.
Recently I decided to stop calling my attempts, particularly when it comes to recovery, as failures. I refer to them as obstacles or stumbling blocks. It’s only a failure if stay down, give up, and don’t try again.
I’ll be truthful. I came close to giving up many times, especially during a deep bout of depression.¬†I got lucky. I found wonderful support from online friends, great doctors,¬†and a couple¬†of tried and true life friends.
Me thinks I made it this far because I realize that my body, mind, and spirit are too stubborn for my own good. ūüôā I thank my Fellowship of the Dragon for that. They encourage me, give me a virtual ass-whooping when needed, pray for me, and allow me (well, not just me…)¬†the forum to rant and rave when things are bad. We do this for each other and the best part is, we listen and offer our heartfelt thoughts and opinions without judgment. I¬†want to cry as I’m typing this, so I’ll quit while I’m ahead.
The three bloggers that I’ve decided to tag for this bloghop are:¬† Elizabeth Seckman, Lexa Cain, and Dani Bertrand.
I hope you enjoyed today’s quotes and found inspiration in them if needed. Any uplifting, inspirational quotes or stories you’d like to share? We’re all eyes! Until next time…
